The Year’s End

Well, 2006 is almost over. Only a couple more days after today. Here in Utah ‘they’ have canceled the big New Year’s party called First Night, because New Year’s Eve falls on a Sunday. I find that slightly amusing. I do not attend, because I’m old and usually asleep when the clock strikes midnight (unless I’m up for a Harry Potter premier LOL). Nevertheless, it’s odd that an entire State will give up a party because of… well.. you know (if I can’t say something nice I shouldn’t say anything at all).

2006 was a pretty good year, as years go. It flew by as is usual anymore. Much too fast. I got a new job, which I should start officially the beginning of next year. I’ve already moved all my stuff over but some other ‘they’ would not let me move my computer or body over there completely until next week. Oh well. It’s not far from my old office and I could easily have done all work from there. Whatever. I’m just happy about the change. I’ll be able to work 10 hour days again, and perhaps work from home one day a week, too. Extremely flexible, which I absolutely love.

We are going to watch another pup this weekend, we’ll be up to 7 dogs in the house. Everyone is getting a bit stressed and overwhelmed. I must say, though, that my dogs are doing wonderfully. Even Chase and Levi, my problem boys. They are tolerating the increased number of dogs like champs even though I know they don’t like it much. Monday the 7th will go, and Tuesday the 6th will go, and we’ll be back down to 5. And as much as I love Cheyenne, he does need a great new home where he can get the love and attention he needs. We just don’t have the time or resources to give the poor guy what he deserves. Regardless of how much I love that boy. :)

And my husband is so wonderful, putting up with all the dogs I drag into the house. It’s not quite as hard on him as it is on our regular four, but it is hard on him nonetheless. I love him (my husband) with all my heart and I do so appreciate all he does and puts up with. The dogs just need so much help, way too many die every year because of overpopoulation. And it makes me mad, I just must do something about it. Even if it’s only a small share.

And so 2007 will begin shortly. Time flies, and who knows how meaningful our tiny little lives are in the big scheme of things. I don’t know. I just live each day with as much gratitude as I can.

Mac

Mac - Smooth Sable Collie Boy This is Mac. He is a smooth sable collie boy. Very sweet. He didn’t like me very much when I picked him up last night. He was sad to go, and his family was sad to let him go.

He is in a great foster home now and we will find him a wonderful home.

Mac will be 6 years old next February. He loves to run and play. He’s quite energetic and loves his toys. He needs some work walking nicely on a leash, but he loves to go out and go for rides. He also loves treats.

He will probably be on petfinder in the next little while. We need some good pictures of him. Unfortunately my digital camera is horrible and I need a new one. It’s so slow that I can’t get any good dog pictures! Oh well, I’ll get a new one soon I think. :)

So, Mac needs a new home!

Utah Collie Rescue

Like I need anymore dog things to do. :p Yeah yeah yeah, I’m nuts. But I just love the collies. I do. I cannot help loving the collies, and I want to help them.

So, with the help of the wonderful sheltie rescue people, I’m going to help out with collie rescue. I built a little website, Utah Collie Rescue. Let me know what you think.

We have Cheyenne, but he’s still through the Utah Sheltie Rescue. And there is another smooth sable boy who needs a home. With Barbara’s help, he now has a foster home. So I’m getting my feet wet. And then see how it goes.

I cannot house them all, unfortunately, though I wish I could. And I cannot go into debt for them. I do have to take care of myself first, to be able to take care of them. This will entail learning how to say no, and learning how to set my boundaries, and learning how to deal with my Social Anxiety with the people. It will be a stretch for me, but I think a good one. I think I’m ready for this.

Jobs and Jobs

Well, I may be changing jobs.

I hope so. Still working for the State. Still working under the same Department’s umbrella, but working on a different team having different duties.

It sounds like a great change. Some bad things… like I’ll have to talk directly to users. No too keen on that, but I’ve done it before and I have to admit I’m pretty good at it.  But I should have more freedoms. I might be able to go back to 10 hour days, or have some other type of flex schedule.  I’ll have more input about the work I do.  I’ll probably get to do more web apps, which are completely fun.  :)

So we’ll see. My current employer doesn’t want to let me go, so there is some discussion going on. However I haven’t even received an official offer yet for the new job, so I shouldn’t jump my guns!

Cheyenne is doing so well on the stairs. He is going up just about on his own, though he still needs the cheese on the stairs to get him the confidence he needs. He’s such a sweetheart.

My neck/back still hurts. Going to a Chiropractor tonight to see if he can help any. I’ll ask him if I should take a break with the dog things for the rest of the month. Tugging with Chase aggravates it, and I do want to be better so that I can continue the dog things! I’m loving Obedience, Agility, and Flyball. They are all a blast!

Up the Stairs

Cheyenne is doing so good at going up the stairs.

Last night he followed the cheese up, and didn’t get too nervous. He went up fairly steadily and got to the top and ate a whole bunch of cheese bits.

He is such a doll. Those stairs scare him so very much. He doesn’t have the muscles or the coordination for them. But he is learning. He doesn’t like to start, and sometimes I have to stay with him at the bottom for a while until he gets his back legs up on the firs step. Then he is better. It’s that first step that is difficult for him.

Midway up he is better. I need to make sure his weight is balanced forward and not back. I worry that he will tip back and fall. I always have a hand behind him to make sure he can’t turn around on me in a panic and jump down. It’s too far and he could seriously hurt himself. I’ve never been as afraid of the stairs as I am when he is on them. Sweet boy. But I think he really needs to master the stairs. To be confident enough on them to be safe. He is learning. He is getting better.

He is such doll and I sooo wish we could keep him. I keep telling Chase and Levi I’m going to trade them in for Cheyenne… LOL but they know I never could.

Christmas Month

Well, it’s here.  Again.  For the 39th time of my life. December.. and soon Christmas.

I love Christmas and the whole month of December. I love Christmas songs and snuggling in blankets. I hate it being 9 degrees out (okay it’s 26 now but that’s still too cold), but I love having a hot air heater being blown on my skin and taking hot baths and hot showers.

And so the season comes, and soon it will be gone again.  The cycles of our much too short lives.  I put up a Christmas Theme for the season.

USDAA Dec 2006

Well, I went to a local USDAA trial this last weekend. Had a great time. Only went one day, Saturday, which ended up being good. Both since my back is still hurting and also because of having to clean out the bedroom of everything, vacuum, etc, for bugs, and move TVs around in preparation for the new Dish Network HD setup monday.

Anyway.. both boys did amazingly well! I kept Chase’s attention most of the time. Amazing that only about 6 weeks worth of obedience has helped so much. Either that, or I’m just learning to run him better.

And Levi nailed his weaves! I was so happy! He got the entry first time and got all 12. Woo hoo. I hope we are going to get those fixed. We are in novice (PI) in USDAA, so basically we were just practicing. But I was so pleased… maybe eventually he will get out of open in AKC. ;)

All in all it was great and we had a lot of fun. Next trial is in Jan 07.
