Sick Thursday

Well, yesterday I thought I was feeling better. But I woke up this morning and I felt rotten again. So I stayed home from work, and slept until noon. Got up, had some tea and toast, and now I’m tired and I think I need to go back to sleep. But I’m sitting here in a daze watching Sesame Street.

I hope this goes away soon. I must get better for the 3 day agility trial the first weekend of May. I must I must. It is only a week away…

This sick started on Monday. I felt rotten, so didn’t do much. Tuesday I was okay… but still didn’t feel great. Wednesday I worked from home and was okay. But today… I feel so awful. I’m going back to bed.

Levi in Agility on YouTube

Here is Levi and me doing agility. It’s from the February 2007 trial. It’s a really good run, except for one mistake toward the end where I told him to turn, which he did just like I said, but I’d told him wrong. Oops! Look at him weave! He does such a good job now!

Earthlike Planet?

A new planet has been discovered, circling a red dwarf sun in the constellation Libra. From what I’ve been reading, today, over 220 planets have been found orbiting starts in recent years. Most, however, are gas giants. The gas giants are big enough to make their stars ‘wobble’ slightly from the pull of their gravity. This new planet, which is considered more ‘earth like’, is smaller. And it is estimated that surface temperatures may be between 32 and 100 degrees, which would be a good temperature for liquid water.

I find it interesting that this planet is circling a Red Dwarf star. These are the most common type of stars in our vicinity. Though they are much smaller than the sun. So if you were to live on this planet, the sun would be huge in the sky. I wonder how much light this sun gives off? What would it look like? Feel like? Interesting thoughts.

The planet is over 20 light years away. So if we could travel there, it would take over 20 years at the speed of light. But as our technology increases, and we get better and seeing further out, and more detail… maybe, just maybe, we’ll be able to actually see other forms of life on other planets. That excites and thrills me. I would love to experience that in my lifetime. Even if it were only plant life, or bacterial life. I am fascinated by other forms of life. What would they look like? What sort of DNA would they have? How did they evolve? Everything on this planet, basically, is related if we go back far enough. To see something that evolved totally separately… that would me amazing.

Though maybe we would be the same… like in Star Trek, or Stargate. My theory, actually, is that we evolved from the garbage of aliens. Some aliens threw their trash down on this planet, and a few million years later we came to be. :)

Littles

Littles the CatI am working from home today… I’m on lunch! ;) And my kitty, Littles just climbed on my lap. Now it’s hard to type! LOL. And oh my goodness is she hot. She is lying here purring up a storm, and heating me up. I might have to get up in a bit just so I can cool off. Usually I let her stay on, because she is our shy and clutzy kitty. She’s my favorite. :)

We think she might be a mix between calico and baby doll. She is really pretty.

Working from home is great. I had a romp with the dogs at lunch, ate a boca burger, romped some more, and then the dogs are napping again.

Google Reader Slow to Update

I have google reader now, to check out the RSS feeds I am subscribed to. It’s very handy. I browse over it every day to check out new feeds and visit the posts that interest me.

I have noticed, though, that google reader takes for stinkin’ ever to catch a new blog post. I am subscribed to my own feeds, of course, and it can take up to six hours for my new posts to show up in google reader.

Is this common? I do have google’s ping service on this blog so it should ping when I post a new blog. I’m not sure if this happens with all readers or just google. Or if there is anything else I can do. I could try a different reader, not sure it would be any different, though.

Well, if I was feeling better I might go out to dinner tonight… gotta find a restaurant. If I lived in San Diego, I could find some San Diego restaurants.

Regulating Wi-Fi

Utah.. ugh… need I say more? Radio West is doing a show today on Regulating Wi-Fi. There are some folk who want to eliminate all open-access networks. We have a great company, xmission, which provides an open wireless in down town Salt Lake City. It’s great. Anyone who would like to hook up can do so. Xmission is my own personal ISP as well, and they are always friendly and very knowledgeable.

But this isn’t about them. It’s about shutting down all open access WiFi. Which means if you have a wireless network at home, and it’s not secure, and someone finds out, you can actually get a fine.

The reason is because children can access porn on the internet, or other awful disturbing damaging things. Well.. hmm… how about this: Watch Your Children! What about that for an idea? I think having free open wireless networks is awesome. I have hooked up to a few myself.

This makes me angry. I don’t think open wireless should become illegal anywhere. Gads, it might be time to move to a different state soon. Hrmph. But in Utah, it’s likely that it will pass. I will help to fight it!

From Green to Purple

I changed the colors of this template slightly. Just so as to make it a bit more unique. Free templates are wonderful things, but sometimes when you see a template you are using, on another site, it’s just kinda weird.

So now the top image is personalized… has a couple tails on it (thought that might change in the future), and instead of the top, bottom, and menu bars being green, they are purple.

So now my real estate is a bit more unique, now I just need some San Diego Real Estate!
