I liked the name Lucy too and chose it for one of my current dogs... it fit into the Peanuts theme that seemed to be emerging (childhood dog named Snoopy though she wasn't a beagle, then a cat named Charlie).

When I got my other current dog I considered (very briefly!!) naming him Linus to keep with the theme but that was just not gonna happen. What, "Liney" as a nickname? Uh, no. Instead I chose Walter, which made my short list because it didn't rhyme with "no" and didn't end in the oh-so-common "eee" sound. I love the name but not long after choosing it someone told me about the children's story "Walter the Farting Dog"... D'oh! :-)

With the dogs we've had, we waited a few days to get to know their personalities before naming them. We had a dashchund once who loved to sniff around pebbles so we named her Pebbles :)
