Linky Love Day

Today is going to be linky love day. :) I’m going to check out a bunch of blogs and post about them here. As I watch BBC America at the same time… though I don’t pay much attention to TV while I’m blogging.

Yesterday my Husband said I needed a blogging intervention… LOL err… he’s probably right. ;)

What a Day

Ugh.. I’m finally home from my big long day. Smokey got here at 8am… and I started grooming him. He had some mats behind his ears but he wasn’t too bad. I did end up brushing a lot of fur out of him. I worked on him for about an hour and a half, then gave him a bath, then went to my appointment.

I absolutely LOVE grooming him. He is so gorgeous, I could have groomed him all day long. I swear he could have been a show collie. Since he was intact and debarked when we got him, I wonder if he was a puppy mill breeder boy. He had a broken leg, was matted like crazy, and his teeth were so rotten he had to have all but 2 pulled. I think those are all signes of puppy mill. Though I don’t know of any collie mills around here.

Anyway… so then I went to my appointment, then came home and picked up poop in the yard. Then finished Smokey up. He’s gorgeous, he needed a bow. :) His Mom and Dad came and got him and we chatted for a while before I left for Ogden.

Of course I was late. Things seem to always take longer than I think they will. I drove to Ogden and met a wonderful family. I would place a collie with them in a second. They showed me all their old collie pictures. They are thinking of adopting from an Arizona rescue as we don’t have any collies for adoption right now. I love seeing collie pictures. :)

Then I drove up to Logan with Mac (he came to Ogden, too). He seemed to like the house and their other dog. Their other dog is epileptic. They just discovered this. If Mac makes the seizures worse, we will take him back. We do’nt know how it will work. They hope that Mac’s presence will help their dog. I don’t know anything about epilepsy. I guess there are no real triggers, it just happens. So we will have to see. Mac was mounting their boy in play. I hope their dog will tell Mac to stop, and they will work it out. Mac has never showed signs of aggression. And I’m not sure if the mounting is just play, or if it’s dominance play. It’s a weird thing he does.

Then I drove home, stopped at Kohl’s on the way, bought a new nightgown, and now I’m wearing it and I’m ready for bed!

Home Security, Dogs, and Being Safe

Having a safe home, a safe area, is a critical part of life. When I moved into my current home I considered a security system, as I was living alone. But I really couldn’t afford it. Plus, I had dogs… two at the time. My Shepherd mix Kip, and Lucy, my collie. She was a puppy at the time, though, and Kip was getting old. However, they still barked loudly and I hoped that would deter any burglars. Though I’m always worried that my dogs could be hurt by burglars or thieves.

So anyway, I was crusing the web tonight, wondering if I could find information on how safe your home is if you have a dog. This is an interesting article on dogs and personal security, and which breeds to chose if you are looking to find a dog to protect your home. I will say, I only support some of the things on that page. For starters, I don’t feel like anyone should get a dog with the sole idea of protection. A dog is a living being, and should, first and foremost, be a family member. If you chose to do some protection training with your companion, that is well and good, but finding a positive way to do that can be difficult. Many protection trainers use old style correction training. My trainer has a Belgian Malinois… I love the breed, and almost got one when I was looking at breeds. She does Shutzhund with her dog. And she uses positive training methods.

That page also says that dogs can deter burglars, but they are not the best way to do so. Like I said, if a burglar comes into my home, I fear that if they have a gun, they may shoot my dogs, or myself or my husband, in order to get what they are looking for. And no dog is going to stop a gun.

A security system might be the way to go. Depends on your situation, of course. My parents have a security system, mainly because after my sister was divorced they were worried about him doing something dumb. Fortunately he never did.

I have automatic locks on my car, and I think it’d be great to have them on my house. I would love to have fingerprint locks.. deadbolts, even. They really are not the stuff of the future. Stick your finger on the lock and it recognizes your print, and opens your door. No more looking for lost keys. :)

So what do you think about having dogs for security? I am not really all that fond of the ‘protection’ breeds. As you know, I have collies, and they are lovers, not fighters. Though I keep telling them Timmy is in the well and they need to get help, and they just ask me for a bully stick. ;)

Wubba!

I just had to post about these way cool dog toys (no this is not a sponsored post!). This post is just because Wubbas are so completely cool.

My dogs are not big toy dogs.. well, the collies are not, anyway. But Chase is. And he loves sqeakers, and he is learning to play fetch (he loves chasing a frisbee).

We got Mac a Wubba from Wubba World. I actually bought it at the dog show in Blackfoot. Huge show. These toys are so cool. Our old one, the squeaker is broken. The new one is great. It’s going to go to Mac’s new home with him. Because he loves chasing the darn thing.

They have Water Wubbas, and Night Wubbas, and Snugga Wubbas, and big Wubbas and little Wubbas. And the name Wubba is so dang fun to say! LOL.

Mac, go find your Wubba! Gets a bit tail wag and a bark at our house.

Sammy Update

Well.. I got an email from Sammy’s new home. Wow, they are really putting in a lot of work to help their dog adjust to him. They got baby gates and have separated their house so they can be together but not quite be together. I am impressed.

They said he seemed sad the first couple of days, but is now adjusting. So hopefully it will work out and he’s in his new home. I never count on things for sure until like at least a month has gone by. But maybe I should take his ad off petfinder… ;)

Cross your fingers!

Busy Saturday

Well tomorrow is going to be busy for me. Good busy, I hope. In the morning Smokey (aka Cheyenne) is going to come and I get to groom him. Woo Hoo! I am excited to see him again. Hopefully it won’t take me very long. As I have a doctor appointment at 9am. So brush and trim and bathe him as much as I can before my appointment, then finish up after.

Then when he is done I’m going to drive Mac up to Logan to see about a home up there. The people seem really great. I hope he fits in. I’ll bring all his stuff and if it works out, I’ll leave him there. I think I’m going to bring Angel in the car with me too, because she doesn’t get out much and would like a ride.

I’m also doing a home check for Southwest Collie Rescue up in Ogden. I guess they don’t have much luck placing smoothies and this family is interested in a smoothie. Man, how come they have problems with smoothies! I love them, and have three. :)

So big driving day, but I hope to get it all done Saturday. Oh, and I’d love to visit Jewel too, but I haven’t heard back from them yet.

Body Slammed

Last night I took Chase and Levi to flyball practice. Chase is doing really good. His box turn seems to be improving. Which is good, because we have our first tournament in St George, Utah, on June 30th. That’s only a bit more than a week away. Hopefully he’ll be fine in the environment. I’ve been told it’s wild and crazy. I think Chase will handle it. I’m only going to take Chase, not Levi. For some bonding time. I’m so bonded to Levi that sometimes Chase doesn’t get as much attention. So it’ll be good for both Chase and myself.

After flyball the dogs all ran around together. I let Levi out, and he and Chase screamed across the park. Was very fun to watch. I was surprised when Levi body slammed Chase! Levi doesn’t usually body slam, so it was cute. Chase took a big tumble but he was okay.

Someone brought jumps and weaves, too. We practiced. Levi’s weaves were beautiful. I haven’t practiced them since the trial last weekend, figuring we could use a break. Chase’s weaves were beautiful, too.

I hung up my two gorgeous collages at home yesterday, too. Had to take some other pictures down. :) But Levi is better. I love them, and can sit in the front room and just enjoy them. Hopefully I’ll get some of Chase when he competes again.

Plug Boards are Fun

I’ve discovered Plug Boards. :) Not many of them, mind, but a couple. You can upload an image and your URL and your image shows until you get pushed out of the crowd.

So I made a little 88×31 image for Tip Tail. I made one for each of my 4 blogs, to see the rest head over to Luna Tail which is my generic (mostly) blog where I’ve posted them all.
