Chase the Puppy!

Do you play Chase the Dog at your house? Most dogs love this game… where they get to run and you chase them all over the place.

As a general rule I don’t play Chase the Puppy. The only dog I’ve played this game with is Angel. Mostly because she gets so very excited. Her ears go back and she wiggles her whole body. She grabs clothes out of my closet, usually a sock, and runs and I chase her. She doesn’t destroy the sock.. but even if she did, they are cheap dog toys. :) She has so much fun. She usually runs out the dog door to get away from me. But then she comes back in again for more fun. Levi will even chase her an nip at her, getting in on the fun.

Tatum so wants to be chased. Our collies don’t really play that much. Chase the border collie plays with her some, but doesn’t chase her around like she wants. So last night I started to chase her in the house.

Oh boy, she loved that! She put her ears back and her head down, just like Angel does, and got all excited and wiggly!

And so now, if I continue playing Chase the Tatum game, we will have to establish some rules. When I want her to come, she’s still gonna have to come. We will not play Chase the Tatum in the back yard when she needs to come in (we have never done this and she runs right inside when I open the door, all the dogs do).

I especially worry about her getting out and running away from me. If this happens EVER, we will stop playing Chase the Collie. Unfortunately, since I watched that poor little Iggy get hit by a car, now I see flashbacks of it, but I see my dogs getting crushed. Especially Tatum, for some reason. It’s being very disturbing.

But I cannot live in fear. I want to live in joy and love. And so we’ll see how this goes. :)

Shandy, Cash and Rift

Hey cool… Shandy, Cash and Rift, dogs that live pretty close to me and do agility and obedience, have their own blogs. :) I thought I’d post their links so my regular readers can check them out too.

If you want to see a dog that makes obedience look easy, check out Cash! :) He and his Mom work great together and are such a good team. I love to watch them. Cash does agility, too. Rift is the new pup of the family and he’s a sweet boy, Tatum loves to play with him!

More on Being Green

live greener productsEarlier I posted about having a green dog. And I will admit, I haven’t yet done much to go green. However, I have been looking around the web to find places where I can buy products that are green, environmentally friendly, and I’ve found a great site that has a lot of good items.

Green and More has a huge selection of eco products. In addition, they have a learning center with a large number of articles to help us with going green, how to do it, and information about the current state of the world and how products we use are hurting our environment.

They have a green blog as well where we can read about recent green topics. And information about the products they carry. There is also a members area where employees and customers can share their experiences.

The company also ‘lives green’ and follows it’s own ideals by using green products inside the company. They use recycled office products, they don’t use plastic, and they use 100% recycled cardboard.

They even sell cat litter… but I don’t see any poop bags yet!

Collies at the Dog Park

352

Well, we didn’t see any collies other than the three who I brought. But they sure had fun! I took Tony, Tatum, Levi and Chase to the dog park. They ran and ran and played and played and had a great amazing time.

Tatum was shy the last time I took her, but this time she wasn’t shy at all. She even did her silly prance play with a man! That made me very happy.

And we saw Kibu from flyball. Chase was excited to see her and wouldn’t leave the poor girl alone! I hope Chase’s feet weren’t hurting him, and his coat is so thin now.. I need to knit him a sweater that goes all the way under him. When Tatum’s is finished, I’ll see how I did and if it’s good, I’ll make Chase one too.

I bundled up in boots, long coat and warm hat. Left my wholesale fashion jewelry and my cell phone at home. I should have brought the cell phone with, I think. It was cold, but not too bad when we kept moving. And Chase was panting, so he must have been warm enough.

Christmas Day Collies

322

It’s Christmas Collie Day! Or, err… Christmas Day for the Collies. :) One or the other, or maybe both, even.

328

And my sister (human sister lol) and her son got the dogs some fun toys. One is a Christmas tree. The other is a rabbit that lost his head. And everyone knows that pulling the stuffing out of stuffed animals is the bees knees and really needs to be done. What is all that stuffing doing in there anyway?

325

And then they took the toys outside, and did some playing out there in the snow. I stood out with them and encouraged the play, which was fun. But it was only 15 degrees out there and I got cold pretty fast.

331

The cold doesn’t bother the dogs, though. Nope. In fact, they really like the cold. It gives them extra energy particles somehow and they have to zoom around the back yard in order to burn them off. Silly zoomies.

334

I like the picture of Angel, Chase and Tatum all tugging on the tree. Tatum is not a big tugger… yet. As soon as she realizes how fun it is, and that it’s okay to do, though, she’ll catch on. She likes tugging better with the other dogs than me.

Levi wanted to guard the pink bunny more than play. He loves to guard. He will gather up all the toys, or bones, in a pile and growl over them. I have to take them away, or pass them out to everyone so everyone has something. He is a silly collie boy. They are all silly collies, actually.

Right now they are chewing on rawhide bones, and having a good time doing so. I ordered bully sticks for them too, so they will have those as well. They do love to chew.

It is a fun day. Hopefully we won’t need a colon cleanse after all the goodies we are eating, though!

We hope everyone has a very Merry Christmas!

Dremmel and Squeeze Cheese are Gold!

Okay, I’m sold on the Dremmel. :) My dogs are already pretty good.. most of them, anyway. And so we are leaps and bounds above just starting a new dog on a Dremmel, or a puppy. And after I wrapped Christmas presents today, including volcom clothing, I decided that it was Dremmel time!

Okay so here is how it went today with each dog. Last night I exposed them all to it, today I thought what the heck, we’ll just dive right in.

Chase was first. He did great. His front feet are more sensitive than his back. I put squeeze cheese on his front legs and while he licked it off I Dremmeled. I actually clipped his nails first because they were a bit long. Then I used the Dremmel. He was very calm and licked his cheese, and I did all his nails. He was great! I suspected he would be, as he’s good for his nail trimming anyway.

Lucy was next. I figured she’d be good because she is a very resilient dog. She is tough and can handle a lot. So I put some squeeze cheese on her legs too, and Dremmeled. I clipped her a bit first to get them down, but I hope to not clip anymore after I get into Dremmel Maintenance. She did well. When food is involved, she always does well. :)

Levi was after Lucy. He also did good. He doesn’t like his toenails clipped but he usually lays stock still, then goes barking and yapping and running around after we are done. With the cheese, though, he was great. He also licked it off his legs and after we were done he got extra, and he didn’t do his nervous after-clip runs.

Angel I need help with and the Husband came to help. He didn’t like my putting the cheese on their legs, as it is kinda oily. But it occupies them. He put it on a DVD cover.. now I better hide that or the dogs will be all over it. :) And Angel was amazing. Usually the husband has to feed her dog food constantly while I clip. She didn’t mind the noise or feel of the Dremmel either, and she loved the cheese so much she didn’t hardly pull away. And with the squeeze cheese I can do most if it myself, which is nice.

Tony was after Angel, and he didn’t like me touching his feet much, so I gave him cheese on the DVD cover with the Dremmel running, and touched his feet. Gently bringing the Dremmel to his toes too. But I haven’t done this much with Tony so we didn’t do it long, and his toenails are not too long anyway.

Tatum was last. She hates hates hates her feet touched. She didn’t even want me to hold her feet to put squeeze cheese on them, and fought me about it. Until she realized that I was putting cheese on her feet. And then she was better. And with her, I just have to be a firm leader. Just like when my obedience instructor tells me when I walk her on a leash and we go say hi to someone, I have to walk with purpose and be firm. Instead of babying her. And the difference in her is pretty amazing when I walk with firm purpose. So with her feet, I just told her she’s going to have to deal with it and I was firm, and she was better. I put the cheese on her foot and held her foot while she licked it off. She stopped struggling then and was better. But still we have a ways to go with the foot handling with her. But I have to remember to be a firm leader with her. I want to baby her because she is so cute and puppy like, but she doesn’t need that from me. She needs a benevolent leader.

So I think that was a lot of success with the Dremmel! I will continue to use it and keep all 108 toenails nice and trimmed! (Man that’s a lot of toenails!)

The New Nail Tool

302

Okay so finally I’ve gotten a decent Dremmel. I actually didn’t know there were good options until my friend told me so. She showed me hers, and told me to use squeeze cheese to get the dogs accustomed to it. Even already, first time, Chase, Lucy and Levi had it touch their toe nails then got to eat squeeze cheese off the handle.

It’s a Dremmel Stylus. It has a rechargeable battery and a nice cradle to keep it in, charged up. Though it says it will hold a charge for 2 years and it came charged, even.

So we are all going to learn to trim toenails with the Dremmel. Tatum still needs to accept having her feet touched. She doesn’t even like it when I stick squeeze cheese in her mouth and touch her legs. But she’ll get better, will just take time and practice.

Puppy Class Tonight!

Yay, I get to take Tatum to puppy class tonight. We will have fun. She is doing so very well in puppy class. I am trying to teach her to wait, but that is just going to take a lot of work and time at home. To tell you the truth, I’ve not been the best teacher of wait in the past with my other dogs. It takes a lot of patience.

And so we are working on that! And while I look at which cruises I want to go on next November, I am looking to see if there are any dog cruises!
