Hiya e! Good ideas about the stay and the stand. Chase was doing a sit for exam and he's starting to graduate to the stand. :) Teaching Tatum the stay is proving to be a long process!

We start with a "sit for examination" and teach stand as a seperate excercise...then we put them together.... It all depends on whether they understand "stay" or not!!

Heeling...try holding a treat in your right hand and giving it as a reward instead of a "bribe." I remind them where heel position is and randomly treat when they're IN it...that gets them pretty focused.

Boy you got a lot going in!!!!
best of luck

Hi Lora, stacking is in the show ring, but it's kinda the same thing. Levi has a great stand for exam because he was a show dog so he's used to it. Basically you stand your dog, walk 6 feet away, and the judge comes and touches the dog head to tail, then you go back. Pretty similar to conformation. In conformation Collies generally self stack, instead of other breeds where people place their four feet into a stack.

Blogging from the hot tub!!! Now WHY didn't I think of that!!!! Sounds right up my alley!

Is stand for showing the same thing as stacking? My guys would have a hard time standing still too... they want to play, wiggle butt and get belly rubs from anyone that walks by.

Chase sounds like he is sooo smart!

Lora's last blog post..Blog
