Impossible decision, just impossible. We shouldn't have to make decisions like this one. Cynthia, you know I'm sympathetic...boy, am I. Barbara and I are severely rescue fatigued ourselves. So far, we've been really luck and don't have any serious impediments to continuing our work in Sheltie rescue. But it's so hard, just so hard. Shelties are a lot smaller than Collies, but having 15 Shelties in a house has got to be comparable to having a half-dozen or so Collies and Border Collies. (Besides, as you know, we've had as many as two Collies in addition to the Shelties!) The thing that keeps us going, I guess, is not knowing what's going to happen to all those Shelties if we give up, even temporarily. It's not their faults that there are so many irresponsible owners, so few fosters, so little donations. I am *NOT* second-guessing or criticizing you. Rescue fatigue is a hazard of the activity, and when we hit the wall so hard that we can't start up again, that's when the dogs are really in danger. Sometimes taking a break is the best possible thing that one can do, even if there are costs in the short term. Take care of yourself, of your marriage, of your own dogs, of your lives. When you're recovered somewhat, there will still be Collies needing your help. And you'll be more able to provide it. And thank you for all who you have helped already!

Sometimes it is the best thing to take a break from Rescue. Stepping back and regrouping gives you a new lease on things when you decide to start up again. We are on a break right now as well. I had to take a break for my own sanity...

Take care of Lucy and spend the most quality time you can with her. She is the most important thing on your plate right now.
