Great info! People always look at Minne and say "that's a Jack Russell Terrier!". I have to explain the difference between the two breeds. Do you mind if I pass this link on to others, possibly on my website? *Hugs* from Canada :)

Thanks for answering folks.
I am in Australia at the moment, maybe if you are after a farm dog you can try an Australian Kelpie - they are an extremely clever dog. and pretty too. Or an Australian Cattle Dog (bluey).

Hmmm. Not a clue about small dogs. The other dog I've always wanted (I have NO idea why), is an Ibizan Hound. I do not like the wire-coat version. (I do not like ANY wire-coated dogs). I like the smooth coated version. I think they're like adorable little dorky fairies. All elegant and regal looking, but complete nerds, and so light and dainty on their feet, bouncing all around... I think my pack would definitely look strange with all herding dogs, and a Beezer mixed in. But I do adore them... Once I satisfy my Sheltie craving, I might go for a Beezer. Never seen one in competitive agility. Supposedly because their sighthound instincts are so keen that they can't really be trusted off lead in an open area... But hey, I've got Border Collies, and I like a challenge... Sounds like it's right up my alley! :) (http://www.carolbeuchat.com/stars/luxor_ibizan/index.htm - here's a link to a really cute page of Bunny, one of the most famous Beezers to date!)

Hi Paulette! As Proud Ebba said too... the Danish Swedish Farmdog is not the same as the Jack Russell Terrier. You can kinda compare the difference to how the Shetland Sheepdog and the Collie are completely separate breeds. They might look a lot alike, but their histories are very different, as well as their personalities!

The more Farmdogs I look at, the more differences I see in how the JRT and the Farmdogs look too. And I really don't want a JRT... I don't like the personality all that much. But I do want a Farmdog!

Comment to Paulette;
NO, this breed, Dansk-Svensk Gårdshund or Danish-Swedish Farmdog, IS NOT THE SAME BREED as JR! And the differens in breed is not because they are brought up different! The DSG has a long, long history in the Danish and the Swedish culture as a farm dog. They had duties as f i guarding the farm and their people/animals on the farm against strangers, keeping an eye on their children and animals, as a ratkiller, and also used in hunting.
The mentality is also very different from a terrier breed as JR - DSG is softer and milder in temperament, it is an active dog but they can easily relax in a calm state of mind. There are other significant breed differencies to btw the DSG and the JR.

I was going to say that it looks just a jack russel bug then I read further. Are you sure it is not the same breed but just trained/brought up differently in different countries?

Yeah... that's why I don't really want a Jack. :) I prefer the Danish Swedish Farmdog. The picture I posted may look like a JRT, but it's not one!
