That is sad, MegaE is a very manageable disease and dogs can live long healthy lives with it!

Hi Alexander.. I need to post an update about Lucy! She is doing really well! We built her a chair and she sits in it 20 minutes after she eats. Thanks for the input!

I have a cocker spaniel aged 2. He was diagnosed with mega-e approx. 9 months ago and I have been feeding him the way you do ever since. He is completely OK now, acting like a "normal" dog. So don't give up.

Maybe you need to change Lucy's sitting position during feeding so that you'll avoid regurgitations. I use very liquid food (very oily that is) and feed him 3 times a day. You can see his Megaesophagus video and x-rays if you want to fully comprehend the way mega-e works. I think this will help you do exactly what you need to do.

Also, never, ever don't miss the 10 minutes sitting after the meal and do it immediately after eating so that her esophagus doesn't get the weight of food pushing it because this deteriorates the problem.

Just my 5 cents...

But whatever you do, don't quit. DON'T.
Lucy is worth it.

:( We once had a foster pup named Lucy, an Irish setter, who had megaesophagus. We had to put her down unfortunately, her cross was just too much to bear.

Hi Julie, I'm so sorry your dog has come down with megaesophagus! It's awful, but it's manageable. I recommend building a bailey's chair, you can find the plans on the megaesophagus yahoo group. It helps Lucy a lot! We have started feeding her bigger meals in the mornings, and smaller in the evenings, and she is regurging less during the night now. Which is better for all of us! Good luck and keep in touch!

Hi Cynthia,
I Have been taking my border collie,Pidge, who was 10 on the 24th February to the vets for 6 weeks, she has had all kinds of tests done and has been diagnosed with Megaesophagus, poor little mite has been vomiting all that time when she eats and drinks,we have been feeding her in a sitting position which seems to help.It seems worse when she is lying down, mainly during late night to early hours in the morning are her worst times.I realise we are going to have a tough time of it but will do anything to make it easier for her.Good Luck with lucy.

Best Wishes.Julie

Hi Katie! I'm sorry about your little Min Pin. MegaE is very manageable though. Lucy has had it for a year now and she's doing well! To find the chair check out the yahoo group:

hi there
our fig, a miniature pinscher, has just been diagnosed with a megaesophagus. we are holding her vertically after each and every meal, which seems to be helping her a lot. her regurgitation on my brother's bed has been minimized, thankfully. any advice/support on this unfortunate condition afflicting our dear little fig would be appreciated. Where does one get a megaesophagus chair?
much love to your lucy, our thoughts are with you.
all the best,
katie
