I spent ten years as an animal rights journalist and that was too much for me but rescue is - to me - like finding the pot of gold at the end of every rainbow. I've been involved just a little in bird rescue and it's the same thing. I do not understand how people can mistreat any animal, it just boggles my mind. My boy dog, Axl, is a rescue dog. He cowers every time I raise my hand or raise my voice. I have no idea what happened to him but it breaks my heart when I see him scared like that.
