A Puppy And The Seasons

Jet in the Rain

Jet in the Rain

I have always wondered what a puppy thinks of his life when the first seasons change. Jet was born at the end of April, and he was a baby until summer, really. When it was pretty hot in Sweden where he was.

Today we had the first rain and thunder storm since Jet came to live with us. And since we are not in condos in Destin Florida, we get lots of seasons and it can get super cold here. This morning was funny because when we opened the door to let the dogs out, Jet ran to the first step and just stood there, sniffing the rain. We don’t get much rain here, so it was a new experience! He didn’t want to go out in the rain, of course. Probably the collies have convinced him that dogs melt in the rain. :)

Soon there will be snow, and I wonder what Jet will think of that! I don’t think he’ll like it too much, as he tends to get cold fairly easily. I’m going to be getting him a coat to keep him warm soon, I just want him to fill out a bit so he doesn’t outgrow it!

Agility Training with Chase

Sunday Morning I went with some friends and did some agility training. I’m kinda pissed at the AKC courses because they are so hard for me to handle with Chase. But I’m learning. And these training sessions have been invaluable to me. A friend got a course map from Agility Nerd and we tried it out. Below is a video of me and Chase. You’ll have to visit the link above to see the course map. I need to read over the options now that I’ve run the course.

So don’t criticize my outfit too much. LOL pink pants and purple top… I don’t think Chase cared. But maybe the best diet pills would help me drop some pounds so I could run faster.

I’ve put in a few comments in the video, but not many. We are getting it, but we needed help in a few areas of the course. It was fun and challenging and I learned a lot from it. I hope my learning sticks for next weekend when we head up to Pocatello for AKC agility!

Took The Boys To Dog Lake

Hike to Dog Lake

Hike to Dog Lake

A couple of weekends ago my husband and I went hiking up to Dog Lake up Millcreek Canyon. It was fun. It was my first hike of the year… and yeah I know it was already September. I do so many dog sports that I never get enough time to hike, which I love to do.

We took Levi, Chase and Muffit. They all had a great time. Chase blew his pads, of course, but he healed up fast. And I think his pads are getting tougher.

Muffit needs the exercise, he sure is high energy and bugs us when he doesn’t get to go on a walk or a hike for a day or two. Fortunately my husband is really good at taking him. Today he took Muffit, Lucy and Angel to Tanner Park.  Lucy and Angel are slow but that’s okay, Muffit runs around enough for all of them. :)

The dogs are great at sticking around us and keeping us safe. No need for identity theft protection… oh wait, that’s online! He he.. I always feel safe with the big dogs around me. No one would mess with me and them. Jet.. well, he’s little, but I bet he would be good at protecting his Mom anyway!

Jet at Bark in the Park

Big Eyes

Big Eyes

So I took Jet to a Bark in the Park today. It was fun… lots of dogs. Nice thing about him is I can just hand him off to a trusted friend or relative and they can walk him around and he’s great. :) I can’t do that with Chase, since Chase doesn’t get along with other dogs at all. But Chase got to do the flyball demo and he likes that better anyway.

I also took Chase (who raced, of course) and Levi. Levi barked a lot, which is not unusual, he should work for call center services where he can talk all day long. :) I have been trying to get Levi out more so he feels better and knows that I still love him. I’ll do some ASCA agility with him at the end of October, I think he’ll like that. Maybe we’ll even try a standard course that has weaves! Why not! :)

So now we are tired, and I need a nap, and all the dogs are napping, so it’s time for me to nap too.

Things to Train

Muffit Tatum and Chase

Muffit Tatum and Chase

Oh boy, I have not been training as much as I should… as much as I want to. I’ve been too busy trialing and then being too tired to do much of anything. Flyball was great last weekend. I have this coming weekend off… well, if you can consider a flyball demo, agility and obedience training off. Ugh. Then the next weekend it’s off to Pocatello for Agility.

It’ll be fun, I’m determined to start Qing with Chase in AKC more. So hopefully we will. Maybe what I really eed is Myrtle beach vacation rentals so I can just get away from it all!

I did work with Jet some tonight. I have him on a halter and a leash, and am throwing popcorn for him. I really want him to learn to catch! None of my dogs catch, not even Chase. Well Chase can get by, but he’s not all that great at it. So I took Levi and Jet in the basement and if Jet didn’t catch the popcorn, Levi got to eat it. Jet wasn’t too happy about that! But he caught like 6 in a row I was so proud! He’s really starting to pluck them out of the air despite my awful throws. Levi was happy to get popcorn, too. :)

Then I took Jet upstairs and worked Leave It a little bit. Had a boring treat in my hand, and dried livers on the counter. If he left the boring treat, he got a liver. He was getting the hang of that pretty fast too.

I need to work with Chase more in obedience, and Tatum more in agility. It’ll come. I just am looking forward to November, when I just may have the whole month off competition (cross fingers!).

Flyball Was Fun

Well, we had another great flyball weekend. I’m still recovering… since I have Candida, most likely have Lyme, and my Mono might still be lingering, I have a hard time recovering myself.  The dogs bounce right back, of course.

I took Chase, Levi and Jet. Chase was the only racer. Levi came because he’s been grumpy lately because he used to be my main travel dog and now he’s not. And Jet… well, he’s just fun to bring with he’s so happy all the time!

So now I have next weekend off, for some training. It’s getting cooler too, so we need to get stocked up on furnace filters for the upcoming winter.

The following weekend I’m going to Pocatello ID for some AKC agility. That should be fun too.

Hanging at Flyball

Well i am down in Hurricane Utah having fun at flyball. Chase is doing really well. He has one more race today and then we are done until tomorrow.

I also have Levi and Jet with. I wanted to bring Tatum too because she is my bratty girl, but three dogs traveling is enough. Levi is with because he has been having some stress because he has not been traveling with me much anymore. And he used to be my main traveling companion. So we are all hanging out and having fun. Thoug at 93F it’s too hot down here. I guess it could be worse.

Chase is having about a 4.9 average being start dog. It’s fub being start dog and Chase has the stamina for it. Though he could lose a couple of pounds.

Anyway gong to see if i can knit some, or maybe zone out until our last race of the day.

Jet at Splash Dogs

Jet In The Pool

Jet In The Pool

We had a great time at Splash Dogs last Sunday. I’ve never been before and so it was all new to me. I really hope that Jet will like the water and want to swim, and even want to jump into the water! He’s not quite 5 months old, so he’s really still just a baby. And I don’t want to scare him, I want him to like the water! So I climbed in the baby pool myself and tried to coax him in with some treats.

He was not to be convinsed by the treats! But with time and exposure I think he’ll really like the water. :) Maybe we need to find the source of the water… is that the www.thesource.ca? Hrm I don’t think so but I can guess!

I went with friend and we watched some of the Soldier Hollow herding, too.  Amazing what those dogs and handlers can do!
