Going to Flyball This Weekend

So this weekend Chase and I are off to do some flyball. I’ll be taking Jet with too, just for fun. Levi will want to go, but I’m driving with my flyball captain and so there’s no room for anyone but Chase and Jet. I hope the weather is okay for the drive down. I’m still a bit freaky about driving in snowy wet conditions… two rollovers on the freeway will do that to a person. But I’m better than I was, so hopefully everything will go okay.

It’s in Hurricane, Utah. Maybe while I’m down there I’ll find a mothers day gift. I should really start looking for something now. I won’t have much time on Saturday or Sunday though. There’s 96 races on Saturday and 76some odd on Sunday. So the days will be busy and packed. It’ll be fun though.

I actually haven’t traveled for some months now, to a dog sport, so I won’t mind going. And April I have no dog sports at all on the weekends! I’m excited for that, since I want to do some yard work!

11 Months Old

The Park

Well Jet is 11 months old today! Wow. Time flies! I can’t believe it’s been an entire year since I was worrying and wondering if Anni, his Mama, would have a puppy for me! I so adore Jet… he is my baby boy. I will admit it, I baby him. :)

I took him to the park for the first time last weekend. He did so well. I was worried that he would get distracted and run off. That he wouldn’t pay attention to me. Or that maybe he would get hurt. He is just so small… and I know, he’s not really all that small, but compared to my 60 pound dogs he is very small! But he did great! He kept in touch with me, came back for treats, and went and explored and had fund doing that too!

I’m not sure how often we will go, since we do so much dog stuff like agility, obedience and flyball. But once in a while we’ll venture to the park for some good doggie play and sniffing.  That may mean we don’t really need fitness equipment, because I’ll be doing a ton of walking instead!

Jet’s Been Sensitive

So for the last month or so Jet has been more sensitive than usual. He hasn’t wanted to tug as hard when we train. He hasn’t been as interested in training when we go out. He seems to tire a bit faster than he used to. My trainer and friend tells me this is very common for intact males that are his age, which is about 11 months old now. So I’ve been gentle with him. Just working on fun things that he can be successful at. Nothing that will be too hard that he might feel like he’s failing doing. I want to build his confidence and make sure he knows that he can succeed and have a really good time doing things.

Last night at lessons he seemed to be better! He was tugging more again, and he just felt perkier and like he really wanted to have some fun training! I was thrilled. Today I took him out in the back yard and we did some 2o2o board work for agility. And a little bit of heeling. And I’m starting to teach him to take and hold a dumbbell for obedience. He loves it all. And he even switched over and played tug too, after getting treats. Before, when the treats came out, the play would stop. I really want him to be able to switch back and forth between treats rewards and play rewards so I’m really happy he’s able to do that again!

He is so much fun to work with, and he loves to train. He gets all excited. And he responds so well to the clicker. Maybe with him being a teenager I’ll need to check out acne treatment reviews… LOL fortunately he doesn’t get acne, though I guess some dogs do!

We are getting his heeling straight, too. I use a target stick and point it away from my body so that his body stays in a straight heel position. I need to do some video of him heeling soon. Maybe after next weekend. I have flyball next weekend so I won’t be doing much other than that. But the weather is getting warmer, and the yard is starting to get green, so some video of his heeling would be fun!

Chase’s Second CDX Leg

Well here’s his second leg. On video… :) He did really well. He didn’t get the third leg on Sunday. There were no pigeons, LOL, but he laid down on his long sit. Bleh. Oh well, I was not mad or upset in any way. I was just so happy that he did such a great job all weekend! I didn’t get his last run on Sunday on video. My card for my camera is bad. It was his best performance all weekend though, you’ll just have to take my word for it! ;)

Chase is so good at Open. He loves the dumbbell. He has an amazingly awesome drop on recall. And he is quite happy doing it all. His heeling still needs some work. Maybe this website, http://www.cellulitetreatmentcream.org, could help me out, even if it wouldn’t help him at all.

Next weekend we get to do flyball. He will love that! It’s his favorite. :)

Chase Open A Obedience Q

So Chase is doing awesome in Obedience. He qualified both yesterday and today.  That’s two legs towards his AKC CDX. Here is the video of him yesterday going for his first leg.

He does such a great job. His heeling is being a bit bad, and he’s loosing his sits on his halts. But other than that I’m proud of the good work he’s doing. He’s such a good smart boy. I have been having a lot of fun doing obedience with him and I’m so proud to see how well he’s doing!

Today there were pigeons during the 5 minute down stay… UGH that was awful. Three of us were qualifying when a pigeon walked by and took flight… Chase and a Brittney and an Aussie next to him jumped at the bird, of course. However, the judge was very nice to let us do the down stays over, and there were some people who guarded the ring so they wouldn’t come back! So we got another Q with a score of 180.5 today. Yesterday’s score was 181. Not too bad… would have been a lot better had his heeling and sitting been good!

Maybe he’s not sitting because he needs some hemorrhoid treatment LOL… or he’s just being a dork. We’ll work on the sits, though, they will come back, I’m sure!

Chase In Obedience

Chase In The Bed

So this weekend I have Chase entered in AKC Obedience for Friday, Saturday and Sunday. I hope he does well… this is my Chase boy on one of our dog beds in the front room. He did really well at the UKC trial last weekend, even after agility, so I hope that he holds it together this weekend for all three days! Those darn 3 minute out of sight sit stays scare me the most, as they seem to for everyone who does obedience.

Hopefully we’ll have some successful obedience stories we an tell with some weight loss success stories after this weekend… though I think I may be too nervous to eat very well this weekend. I dunno, but hopefully we can do good at both obedience and eating!  I don’t think I’m making much sense today in this here blog post… I’m just too nervous about obedience!  Well, the nerves come and go, really.  Hopefully they won’t be too bad tomorrow.  I’d love to get Chase his AKC CDX!

Puerto Rico FCI Kennel Club

Goofy Jet

A while ago I posted about the International Kennel Clubs and Rare Breeds and I decided that I would register Jet with the Canófila Federation of Puerto Rico, to ensure that his FCI status would be solid, even here in the USA. The USA is not an FCI member country, so in order to keep him FCI registered I wanted to make sure he was in the stud book of an FCI club.

So now he is! I just got his registration back today, yay! He is official! So now any puppies that he has can also be registered with the Puerto Rico Club. And they can be transferred to any FCI member country too. I’m relieved. I’m glad it’s done and I got his pedigree back, you have to send in the original pedigree and that made me a bit nervous.

I wonder if they make ashton cigars down in Puerto Rico… I should go and find out someday. It’ll be cool to be able to go anywhere in the world and show him in an FCI dog show. Just like the World Dog Show in Denmark we are going to. Yay! I’m excited to be going!

Second UCD Obedience Leg

So Chase and I went and did agility last weekend… DOCNA, and I’ll post more about that later. But we also did a UKC Obedience show Sunday evening. I have to admit, I enjoy obedience with Chase more than I enjoy agility… and so I’m proud that he got a Q in UKC novice obedience. Yay! That’s his second leg. I think so, anyway. I need to contact the UKC and make sure that is the case. I wish they had catalog printing so that I could see our show results, but oh well, I guess I just have to ask them.

He only got a 181, and that’s because his butt didn’t touch the ground on his sits. It was like he was perching and ready to jump an agility jump, or do his start line stay. And since he was fresh off a 2 day agility weekend I can’t blame him too much. I can get mad at him at agility, but I rarely get mad at him in obedience. Go figure. I’m a nut!
