Be An Entredog!

EntredogMy silly smooth sable collie girl, Tatum, has decided to start a new blogrolling list called Entredog. I haven’t even gotten myself on it yet! Mainly it’s for dogs who write their own blogs… so that’s not really me. But she probably won’t say no if you are a human writing a blog about your dogs. :)

So if you have Entrecard, and are a dog who writes a blog… or if you want to get Entrecard, or if you want to be a dog writing a blog…. (lol) then feel free to go sign up with her! She is a goof and silly and has a heart like gold and a soul like fire. And I adore her!

She got the idea from the Entrecat blogrolls she’s been seeing around… and we hope it’s okay to copy the idea!

Yay Slow Weekend

Cute Cue!Just finished feeding Lucy in her chair. Thanks everyone for the comments about her chair! She does well in it, still struggling a bit but she’ll get better. And she does get yummy food in her chair!

This is a picture of Cue, my friend in Colorado just brought her home a couple weeks ago. Isn’t she a doll!? What a cutie. So confident, well bred, and pretty too! Oh.. and a quick note, I had a car accident last Friday, and that’s why my posting has been a bit spotty as of late. I hope to get some more posting in in the next few days. Didn’t need to use term life for the accident. I think I’m okay, but sometimes it can take a few days for the injuries to come out. So we’ll see.

I may be off the computer today, I hope to go see The Mummy, and then flyball practice after. Should be a fun day. :)

Lucy’s Bailey Chair

Bailey ChairI have the best husband in the world. :) And Lucy has the best Dad. She has megaesophagus… as you might know from prior posts. If anyone has missed out… she no longer has muscles in her esophagus that can move her food into her stomach. So if she eats regular food, the food gets stuck in her enlarged esophagus and won’t go down. She ends up regurgitating it a couple hours later.

Lucy in her Bailey ChairShe lost six pounds before we figured out what was going on. Now she is gaining most of the weight back and you can’t feel her ribs so much. My husband built this Bailey’s Chair for our collie girl Lucy. The original design was for a dog named Bailey. We got the plans and my husband built it this week. Doesn’t it look great! He did an awesome job! And he even used leftover paint, wood, and soft tiles so he didn’t spend much money on it.

Lucy in her Bailey Chair EatingWe were holding her up on the couch, but we wanted to get her more vertical. We also wanted to get a way that we didn’t have to sit with her for 20 minutes every feeding. And we feed her four times a day.

She gets 2/3 cup kibble, 1/2 can wet, and water blended together in a blender… she gets that mixture twice a day and we cut it into two meals each. So four meals a day. And so far, it’s working really well. She doesn’t like to stay in it for 20 minutes… but we are feeding her, and then we let her lick some honey out of a bowl when she is still.

I don’t want her to learn that struggling gets her out of the chair. So when she is still, she gets a lick of the honey, which she loves. And so far, so good. She struggles a little, but not really so bad.

She is our baby girl, we want her to live many years yet! She’s only nine and a half!

My Dream Job

Well, what else would my dream job be? :) I love working with dogs. And I would love to do it full time. working with the people would be harder, I’m sure, than the dogs. But I hope I can develop the observational skills I know are so critical.

I made this little video.. and I wanted to video Levi doing his dumbbell work anyway! He is such a good boy.

And dangit, ignore that he popped the last weave poll. I haven’t been weaving him because he has a pulled muscle in his right rear leg… so this was just a test!

NAFA v U-FLI

Flyball SiteI have attended about three or four U-FLI tournaments since I started racing in flyball with Chase… back in October 2007. Also, I’ve run in many agility venues… AKC, NADAC, USDAA, DOCNA, and ASCA. So I have a bit of experience in getting titles and certificates in the mail, how long it takes, etc.

So I thought I’d post my thoughts about the two flyball venues and a brief review of what I think about them.

What I like about the U-FLI tournaments I’ve been to is, mainly, the professionalism. Granted I’ve only been to local tournaments, thrown by Touch n Go (the creators of U-FLI) and local southern Utah teams. I like how the judges wear uniforms and were very nice and informative to talk to.

I also absolutely love how U-FLI provides a points sheet at the end of each day during the tournament. With starting points for each dog, points accumulated during the day, and ending points for the day. And they provide pins for the titles. That very day. Having done a lot of agility, I get really frustrated when the venues take months and months to get title certificates sent out. And I have so many title certificates that they are in a book… I really like the pins I can have and hold in my hands that day. Yes, I’m one of those instant gratification types!

And at the NAFA tournament… they have the best three of five heats. So if you win three heats, the race is done. If you win two and the opposing team wins one, you go on to a fourth. Then if it’s two and two, you go to a fifth to see who wins three first. Well, I didn’t like this much. I kept wondering how many teams might throw races just to get the points? That’s not supposed to happen, but I bet it does. And I guess I don’t like not knowing how many heats we’ll race. Is NAFA always like this or does it depend on the team who is hosting the tournament?

I prefer, in U-FLI, how you know how many heats are in a race. You race them, and I’m good with that. :)

The Laramie Wyoming Hole In The Wall tournament was run very well, went smoothly, we were out by 4pm, and we got some nice toys and I did love the medallions we had for placements! So I’m not saying that the trial itself was bad in any way. Far from it. I had a great time and we enjoyed ourselves. I am just saying that, so far, I think I prefer U-FLI to NAFA. The fact that U-FLI gives title pins and point sheets at the end of each day amazed and thrilled me. That doesn’t happen anywhere in the agility world! I wish it did. :)

Sheltie Jack Wordless Wednesday

Sheltie Jack Fur Effect

This is a Shetland Sheepdog (Sheltie) / Jack Russel Mix that was at the flyball tournament in Laramie. I thought he was so cute! I love the short hair, the sheltie look, the size, and the jack mixed in! Hrm… maybe I need one… ;)

I used a Fur Effect in Paint Shop Pro since I had to lighten it and I had to use such a high ISO indoors, it was grainy.

Yeah I know I know.. not too wordless, I always feel I have to explain the photo!

Back from NAFA

Me and MuffitAnd so.. back to work after doing flyball again all weekend. It was a blast. I had a great time. This is a picture of me and Muffit. He was being goofy and wouldn’t keep his ears up, kept wanting to look for other dogs when we were trying to take pictures of him. However, he did really well at the tournament and by the middle of the first day his crate was uncovered and he could watch the goings on and he was still quite. Yay for Muffit! I think he’ll be doing flyball probably in a year, hopefully less! He is a good boy!

Tatum also did well. She was hardly nervous at all, ate all her food, peed three or six times a day, and pooped too. No worries for her!

Chase did great. We ran with our regular team, Thunder Paws from here in Utah, on Saturday. Then on Sunday we ran with RUFF from Denver. That was fun, and a little stressful. Chase was usually third dog and although I’m pretty good at timing passes, the second dog changed out occasionally and that threw me off!

I have to say, I think I like U-FLI better than NAFA.. and I’ll post later as to why. But the drive was fine and uneventful. The hotel was just fine, and the weather wasn’t too hot… until after our races, then I was sweating! The bathrooms were nice and had bathroom faucets that worked well. It was fun to get an idea of a different flyball venue, too, and see different teams run.

So… are we going to throw our own tournament here in Utah? Well.. hrm.. maybe we should!

My husband tells me I have to go to bed early so I’m logging off now! LOL… Muffit, Tatum and Chase are also dead tired and they had a great time. I do love my dogs! Talk atcha tomorrow!
