Good Seminar

I enjoyed the seminar this weekend. The days were too long, and yesterday, Saturday, was rainy, even snowy, and too cold. We moved indoors in the afternoon because it was pouring rain and even snowed. It was still cold, even with 5 layers of clothes on. I couldn’t find my winter jacket. Hrmph.

Chase did really well. He only worked today. We got some good tips on his heeling and his dumbbell. He doesn’t like to hold the dumbbell, I just have to work it some more. We also got some tips on when he won’t release his toy. He gets into high drive and does not want to let go. We’ve tried letting the toy go slack, pulling up on his collar, waiting him out… nothing has worked. So we have now resorted to the flank pinch. It’s not really a pinch, but it causes his mouth to open and he lets go of the toy. He doesn’t much like it, either. Hopefully that’ll convince him to release that toy even when he is high.

I brought Tatum today, too. She did super. It was too long of a day for her, though. We left around 4pm, and people were still there. She sat in the car most of the day, but we did some socialization with the dog people, with a dog around her because she is more comfortable with another dog. She sat with me ringside for about 20 minutes, too. She was taking and eating chicken, so that was a good sign. She just needs experiences, everything is so new to her. It was too stressful for her, she came back home and had diarrhea and then threw up. But she’s been playing her bouncy rabbit play with Bianca for a little while. Now she has settled down. She needs sleep and to rest and recover, and she’ll be fine.

So now I’m home watching Numbers and relaxing. It was a long weekend. I’m so glad I don’t work tomorrow.

Agility Pictures

Levi and Me
Levi and Me
Levi and Me Ooo a friend of mine and great agility person took some pictures of me when I was running Levi! I didn’t even know until today.

Levi has so much fun, and he is really moving well in these pictures. He is such a good boy. This must have been Sunday, as it wasn’t raining or snowing that day.

The thing I find interesting, while watching videos of myself or seeing pictures of myself, is my position. Now, those weaves, I am ahead of him. What am I doing up there? Usually I stay behind him and then he finishes all twelve. Is that why he popped the weaves? Because I was ahead and pushed him too hard? Gads I didn’t even know I was ahead of him. Very odd. Sometimes if he’s super slow in the weaves I try to pressure him a little bit, but I can’t do it very much or he’ll pop.

Yes yes I know, in theory, he should complete the weaves independently no matter where I am. But with all the weave problems we’ve had over the years, I’m usually very careful about my position. Maybe we just need to practice more at home with me at weird spots.

Hmmm….

If you click on the picture it’ll open in a bigger window. :)

Peas & Feedburner

We are going to have peas, and soon, too! Or so it seems. If it doesn’t freeze too hard. Which it could do, because we are having a snow storm as I write.
Pea Plants This is a picture of my husband’s Pea Plants growing in the garden. Cute little things, aren’t they? I love home grown peas. Of course home grown tomatoes are my very favorite, but these are yummy too. I’m so ready for summer.

I actually took some pictures of the dogs playing today when I got home, but none of them are any good. So I’m posting the peas instead. And so they are just on the laptop, I didn’t even load them onto the web. Oh well.

Man I don’t like how smilies show up on this skin. Hrm…

OH OH OH! I also discovered Feedburner. How cool is it? Well, I can actually see how many people have subscribed to my feed. So, I signed up. And now I’ll get to see. Woo Hoo.

Takin’ Off

Well, the weather look… acceptable. For now. I’m very afraid of driving to Rigby Idaho today, but I’m going to go slow and take my time. So I’ll be gone this weekend to Idaho, and the next weekend to Las Vegas, for agility.

It’s not snowing. But it’s cloudy. Hrm.

I won’t be on the computer much until after I get back from Las Vegas. Bye!

From 70 to 30

Well, I’m back from training in Irvine, CA. The beginning of the week was too windy and cold. Rainy a bit, clear a bit. Saturday, though, was so nice and warm. It was in the 70s when we were at my Aunt and Uncle’s house. And then I came back here, to Salt Lake City… and there is snow on the ground and it’s too cold.

And it’ll probably be a couple of months before it really starts getting warmer. Ugh. And I don’t feel well. I have no energy, my throat is a bit sore, and I’ve been having head aches. I am going to sit and read all day today and catch up on sleep I think. I’m too tired. I have agility class tonight, I hope I’ll make that. It’s my flex day which is good.

My head got packed with too much information in training. I sure hope I retain it all. I sure missed the dogs when I was gone. We are watching Nick and Glitter for a bit, they are such sweet hearts. I have two shelties on me now while I read, plus Levi. :)

No Flyball Practice

Today is our regular flyball practice day. But due to snow, it’s been cancelled again. Ugh! Chase is bored! Well, we have agility practice tomorrow so that is good, and I plan on taking the boys jogging again, they will like that. Though Levi gets tired for the rest of the day after jogging, he’s not as high stamina as Chase. :)
I need to increase my own stamina. The agility trial last time just took me out. And Jogging really does help me build my endurance. Today is a clear day, though cold at 17 degrees. I’ll strap the boys’ boots on and off we’ll go.

Jewel and Cheyenne are doing very well. Jewel eats now on a regular basis, so that makes me very, very happy. I need to get some updated pictures. Her coat is also starting to grow back very fuzzy. She will be as gorgeous as Cheyenne in a year or so when her coat is all back. Cheyenne’s coat is also growing out in the back where he had been trimmed awfully. He is so gorgeous now. He’ll be getting a grooming today or tomorrow, and I think I do a fair job, and I’m a heck of a lot cheaper. ;) And Cheyenne has learned the dog door! lol… after five months, one day we see a fuzzy collie butt going out the door. And he can come in, too, though that took him another couple days to learn. Yay!

Cheyenne is a typical goofy collie boy, and Jewel is a typical, more sassy, collie girl. I just love these collies!

Differences

You know, I really don’t understand the differences between IE and Firefox. My new layout, blog and home page, look different in IE than they do in Firefox. And I really really really, really, most definitely really, do not want to spend the time trying to fix them all up. Maybe I will, but not today.

I do like the new layout, though. Much nicer. I like how the sock pictures fit in, too.

Anyway…

I don’t know if I’m going to go to agility class tonight. I want to, but there is a blizzard outside, and I don’t want to drive for 20 miles each way in a blizzard. I cannot drive in the snow on the freeway, since my two rollovers. I would have to take side streets and it takes me almost an hour to get there.

But then I love going. I love my instructor, and my classmates, and we have a good time. And I learn every time I go. Sometimes it’s something small, and sometimes it’s something big. But I enjoy working with Levi and Chase in class, and watching the other dogs, too.

We are having Lake Effect snow today, so it is supposed to snow until 6am tomorrow morning. I guess no one told Mother Nature that it’s spring, and it is supposed to be clear and warm. Maybe she and Jack Frost are having an argument and he’s winning. :(
Anyway, I could work with the pups at home some. Lucy and I are going to take a heeling class, I’m excited. I like the teacher and Lucy does too. I won’t ever get Lucy into Utility or anything in obedience, but I’d like to get her CD. And the only thing she is poor on is her off leash heeling. That’s why she breezed through Rally Novice. Because onleash she is great. And if I can talk to her, she is also good. But obedience is so quiet, and so serious… I prefer agility and herding, and Rally is fun. Maybe I’ll enter Lucy in Advanced Rally after the class, too, to see how she does. I hope we improve. I have three things to work on with her. Now, I better remember what they are…

1. Touch - having her touch while we are walking. Making sure my hand looks the same when she gets the treat as when she touches. Carry the food in my right hand and feed in my left hand.
2. Get-It with a slight collar pop. Just a little pressure, so she relates it as being a good thing.
3. Uh Oh…. what was number three? I better remember before class on Thursday! :D
Anyway, almost time to go home.

Class March 29th - Chase

Ooo Chase’s weaves are coming along so nicely!

I can half-moon around those 2×2s now with him, and he hits them each time. Looking for that darn entry! Wow, I’m impressed. I throw his toy out, too, and he then keeps his head down, and bends to the right for when the next polls are set up.

So we are going to move on to the next step. The 2 sets of 2×2s will be extended out a bit, so he has to go through two gates. Teacher says he’ll learn this super fast. If the snow would only melt!

I’m super excited about his weaves. I will admit, I didn’t know a toy was so much motivation for a dog. And play and tug. He just loves this game and it’s working very well! I love using all positives!

February 2005

Life goes on, eh? :) Things are good. I’m running 3.5 miles now regularly… or mostly regularly. Sometimes I’ll go the 2.93 mile route, if it’s a particularly hard run, but usually it’s 3.5 miles. Which is more than a 5k, so I can probalby do a 5k in April. Though I hope I’m not nasty slow.

It is cold… was 12F this morning. Ugh. Not fun at all. I want spring to come, I’m buying brightly colored clothes because I’m tired of the dull drab weather and snow. It snowed a lot yesterday, today is sunny but freezing cold.

Agility is fun. Haven’t had a trial since Jan but there will be another one on the 19th of this month. That’ll mark the first trial I ever went to last year. :) I’m excited. 1 Year and we are in open, I think that’s awesome!

Clicker training the dogs is a riot. Been working on getting them to go backwards. All of them but Lucy has it down pat. :D Lucy, however, gets too frantic about the treats and is having a hard time moving backward for me to mark her with the clicker. We’ll get it, though! I think Chase needs to learn to roll over. :D
